Academics

ELA

At Ricardo Flores Magón Academy, our middle school ELA program challenges students to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage deeply with a variety of texts. Through close reading, writing across genres, and thoughtful discussion, students build advanced literacy skills and develop their own voices as readers and writers. Small group instruction supports differentiated learning, while literature and nonfiction texts help students explore diverse perspectives and real-world themes.

Math

At Ricardo Flores Magón Academy, our middle school math program equips students with the skills and confidence to tackle increasingly complex concepts. Through a blend of direct instruction, collaborative problem solving, and real-world applications, students deepen their understanding of algebra, geometry, and data analysis. Small group instruction allows for targeted support and enrichment, ensuring all learners are challenged and supported as they grow into analytical thinkers and prepared mathematicians.

Science

At Ricardo Flores Magón Academy, middle school science is driven by curiosity, experimentation, and hands-on discovery. Students explore topics in life, earth, and physical sciences through engaging lessons and weekly lab investigations that bring concepts to life. These labs provide opportunities to apply scientific methods, test hypotheses, and collaborate with peers—building both content knowledge and critical thinking skills. Our program fosters a deep understanding of the natural world while encouraging students to ask questions, seek evidence, and think like scientists.

History

At Ricardo Flores Magón Academy, our middle school history program emphasizes cultural understanding and the diverse narratives that shape our world. Students explore ancient civilizations, U.S. and world history, and current events through the lens of identity, culture, and social change. By analyzing primary sources, engaging in thoughtful dialogue, and making connections across time and place, students gain a deeper appreciation for the contributions and experiences of different communities. Our curriculum empowers them to think critically about the past while developing empathy and a strong sense of civic responsibility.

Spanish

At Ricardo Flores Magón Academy, our middle school Spanish program is designed to deepen language proficiency while celebrating the richness of Spanish-speaking cultures. Through speaking, reading, writing, and listening activities, students build strong communication skills and expand their vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Cultural exploration is woven throughout the curriculum, allowing students to connect language learning with traditions, history, and contemporary life across the Spanish-speaking world. Whether students are heritage speakers or new to the language, our program supports growth and confidence in a bilingual, multicultural environment.

Student Support

At RFMA Middle, we actively use restorative justice practices to build a strong, supportive school community where every student feels heard and valued.

Instead of focusing on punishment, we guide students to reflect on their actions, understand how others are affected, and take responsibility in meaningful ways.

Through regular class circles, peer mediation, and guided conversations, students learn to express their feelings, resolve conflicts peacefully, and restore relationships. These practices help create a safe, respectful environment where students grow both socially and emotionally.
