Board Members

The Ricardo Flores Magón Academy has selected Board Members from all backgrounds to help facilitate the school. Below are the current Board Members, meetings are held every third Monday of the month at 6pm. Please check the annual board calendar for the location.

Current Board Members

Gina Del Castillo
Board Chair 

Contract consultant and business owner Gina’s career spans over 30 years experience in nonprofit management including program development, building organizational capacity, fund development, strategic planning; board development and organization evaluation. Her passions include education and involvement in the Latino community. She has worked with nonprofit organizations in supporting their ability to sustain their place in community while building their foundation base. She has presented to organization on how important it is to re-evaluate their standing and organizational growth is necessary. She is a graduate of Regis University with a (BA) in Business and Sociology; attended Colorado Christian University Masters Program (MA) in Education specializing in Curriculum and Instruction. Gina is also consults one-to- one as a personal career and life coach. Currently, she has served on several boards and currently with Centro Humanitario and Ricardo Flores Magón Academy; and volunteers for other nonprofit organizations. She is a native of Denver, has one son, Andres; two of the most amazing grandchildren Marcos 21 and Isabelle 16 and is a co-caregiver of her 77 year old mother.

 

Jorge Castañada
Vice Chair  

Jorge Castañeda is the founder and owner of Castañeda Law. He is a licensed attorney in Arizona and Colorado and has been practicing law for 15-years. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of San Diego and graduated from Arizona State University College of Law. Jorge began his legal career in 2001 at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. In 2006 Jorge went into private practice, where he began practicing criminal defense and began his immigration practice. Jorge is fluently bilingual and has extensive experience in both the criminal and immigration courts. He has made it his professional goal to provide honest and straightforward representation for his clients.   Jorge was born in Nogales, Sonora Mexico. His family immigrated when he was a child and he grew up in Nogales, Arizona. His personal background gives Jorge a unique perspective on the issues that affect the immigrant community.

Viviana Casillas
Secretary

Viviana Casillas is the Program Administrator for the Career Online High School program/service and for the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library of the Denver Public Library. Viviana is in charge of managing the Career Online High School program, which allows individuals in the City and County of Denver to get their high school diploma. At the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library she oversees programming, events, and library exhibits.
Born in Zacatecas Mexico, migrated to the United States at the age of nine, she calls Colorado her home. Viviana is a big believer in education and taking advantage of any opportunities that come across to reach her goal. Attended the Arapahoe Community College and obtained her Associates of Art with a focus on Management, later transferred to the University of Colorado in Denver, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In December 2016, she received Masters in Library and Information Science with a focus on Leadership and Management from Emporia State University via the Colorado Cohort. Viviana is no stranger to Customer and Public Service, having spent 9 years in customer service and over 13 years in public service, which taught her the importance of providing the best service and equal access to information to everyone.

 

Mattias O’Merea
Treasurer

Senior Vice President, Investment Banking | BB&T Capital Markets

Mr. O’Meara specializes in providing financing for charter schools throughout country. Mr. O’Meara has over a decade of experience working as an investment banker, and has completed transactions ranging from project financings, acquisitions, and derivative advisory for a variety of governmental and 501(c)(3) organizations.  Before joining BB&T, Mr. O’Meara was a Public Finance Banker at Wells Fargo.  Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Matt worked for a boutique investment bank that specialized in financing charter schools throughout the nation. In the course of his work, Matt has been responsible for the creation and oversight of several charter school research projects including a financial database that continues to be the industry standard for statistical information pertaining to charter school finance. He is frequent speaker at charter school conferences and the author of several articles pertaining to charter school financing. He has also served on charter school boards. He earned a B.A. in 2005 from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
