Early Literacy Program

Research-based practices to improve reading

With a goal of every student reading at grade level by the end of third grade, RFMA leverages funds and resources from the Early Literacy Grant to make impactful changes to our learning program.

We follow research-based practices and conduct a 90 to 120-minute daily literacy block integrating phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension with direct and systematic instruction. We use DIBELS assessments to identify targeted support for each student and implement rigorous progress monitoring protocols to ensure student growth. Our staff receives continuous development and support from a literacy coach provided through the grant and ongoing consultations and walk-through observations from reading experts.

With these practices in place, the literacy program at RFMA is structured, focused, and designed to ensure success for students in their early elementary years.
